US automotive giant General Motors (GM) and semiconductor leader NVIDIA have announced a collaborative effort to enhance autonomous driving technology and improve automotive manufacturing efficiency through the incorporation of NVIDIA’s advanced artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors and software.
As part of this initiative, the companies plan to train AI-driven production management models for GM’s manufacturing facilities using NVIDIA’s development platform, aiming to create a new AI system. GM also intends to leverage NVIDIA’s technology for its future in-house advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
While Tesla leads the electric vehicle (EV) market with its proprietary Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, traditional automakers like GM are facing challenges in commercializing autonomous driving technologies.
Previously, GM utilized NVIDIA’s semiconductors for its autonomous taxi service, known as RoboTaxi. However, the company shifted its strategy last year, deciding to exit the RoboTaxi business and focus on developing autonomous technology for individual consumers. GM is now looking to generate subscription revenue through its unique ADAS feature, Super Cruise.
